Memorial family observes ‘Anne’s Day’
Ruth and the family of sculptor Korczak Ziolkowski observed “Anne’s Day” with friends on May 6.
The first anniversary of Anne Ziolkowski Christensen’s passing brought forth fond memories, photos and a chance to visit her stone crypt, located just outside the gates of Korczak’s imposing tomb near the foot of the Crazy Horse Memorial mountain carving.
The marker quotes her favorite movie, “The Wizard of Oz,” to explain she’s “Off to see the Wizard.”
Anne, the sixth of Korczak and Ruth Ziolkowski’s 10 children, was the Memorial’s vice president of visitor operations and director of the museum.
Flowers and her horse saddle are set before a star quilt in the original museum wing. Overhead is a reminder from respected Chief Seattle of the Duwamish – “There is no death, only a change of worlds.”
