Winners named in Crazy Horse art show
Billie Lee Neilson of Custer earned the “Best of Show” ribbon for an intricately beaded necklace featuring a wolf image that also won the beadwork division.
Other category winners included:
Crafts division – Jerry Hoenke, Rapid City, for a knife and sheath set pieced together from wild turkey leg, deer antler, a steel saw blade, cow and deer hide and turkey “beard”;
Jewelry – Carol Hatathlie, Tuba City, AZ, for an inlaid stone bracelet featuring hand cut images in silver and gold;
Leather – Jose Farinango, Custer-Chicago, for a fringed purse featuring a beaded turtle;
Quillwork – Dorothy Brave Eagle, Lakewood, CO, for a decorated purse;
Sculpture – Richard Tucker, Custer, for “Baby Jack,” a large-scale dozing bronze bunny;
Textiles – Deb Burckhard, Rapid City, for her “Nature’s Bounty” vase detailed with horse hair, whitetail antler, Picasso jasper and coil basket weaving;
And Todd Ashley of Custer won the traditional carvings/crafts category with a knife set featuring elk horn handles.
The 23rd Gift from Mother Earth Celebration will be held June 14-16, 2013.
