Crazy Horse Memorial Foundation is excited to welcome Mary Murtala to the newly created position of Chief Development Officer, serving on the Executive Management Team. She begins this new role on October 18, 2023.
Murtala is a highly experienced nonprofit executive skilled at leading teams, as she did in her most previous role as Senior Managing Director of Development at National Parks Conservation Association. While there she worked directly with NPCA’s Philanthropy Committee and their various donors, focusing on strategy, analysis, and coordination of the association’s Development function, successfully mentoring a team of thirty professionals.
Murtala’s decades of experience include other organizations such as the SEED Foundation and the University of Maryland, College Park. She has been responsible for comprehensive fundraising campaigns and has served on several Executive Teams during her career.
“Mary has 20 years of leadership experience in development work and will be a great addition to the Crazy Horse Memorial Foundation,” remarked Whitney Rencountre II, CEO of Crazy Horse Memorial Foundation. “Her experience, passion, and support of our mission will help the Foundation as we implement our new five-year strategic plan.”
A collaborative and responsive leader, Murtala is a Tulane University graduate and an alumna of both the New Strategies Program for Nonprofit Executives at Georgetown University’s McDonough School of Business and the Nonprofit Executive Leadership Program at Indiana University’s Lilly Family School of Philanthropy. She is passionate about issues related to social equality, including access to education and our public lands, and cultural awareness and
understanding of all people.
