Crazy Horse Memorial® marked a significant milestone in May when it welcomed its first school group to view the Horn Chips Collection in The Indian Museum of North America®. Thirty-six students and six teachers traveled from the Pine Ridge Reservation’s Batesland School on Friday, May 21 to learn more about Crazy Horse through the medicines a holy man made for the Lakota leader more than 150 years ago.
This spring, Crazy Horse Memorial® added 44 tribal flags to its displays in the Cultural Center and covered porch area, bringing the total number of flags on view to 138. While the Memorial has collected tribal nations’ flags for decades, this is first time they’ve all been available to the public.

Crazy Horse Memorial has announced that it will host its annual Autumn Volksmarch on Saturday and Sunday, Sept. 26-27. This expanded two-day event, held in conjunction with the Black Hills Volkssport Association, takes place the same weekend as Custer State Park’s Buffalo Round-Up. The Crazy Horse Volksmarch is a 10K (6.2-mile) organized hike to top of the world’s largest mountain carving in South Dakota’s southern Black Hills. Each year, Crazy Horse Memorial hosts spring and fall events; this year, due to the unfortunate outbreak of the novel coronavirus, the team cancelled the Spring Volksmarch.

(Aug. 28, 2020) — Earlier this month, at the request of organizers, the Crazy Horse Memorial welcomed the 2nd annual Medicine Wheel Ride to its cultural and educational complex in the Black Hills. On that Sunday, Aug. 9, indigenous riders and their friends, including Sturgis Mayor Mark Carstensen, gathered at sacred Bear Butte for a short ceremony and bike blessing and then rode together to Crazy Horse Memorial for lunch, guest speakers, and a group photo.
